Your Drinking Water

Protecting drinking water sources from being compromised with LandFill/LandRaise is an important issue and one which the Environment Agency plays a part.

The drinking water source for South East Water

'.. However, more than three-quarters of the region’s drinking water comes from aquifers which are filled by rain which runs through porous ground such as chalk and limestone. These natural underground water-bearing rocks act like a sponge to absorb rainwater which has percolated its way down through the soil over many weeks and months ..'

Environment Agency Environmental Permitting Regulations Understanding the Landfill Directive. Section 6 identifies Landfill Location and defines ground water policies

Groundwater source protection zones. Enter you postcode and the resulting screen will tell you the source of your drinking water as well as finding out about the associated groundwater protection zone and whether The Environment Agency may restrict activities that may pollute water supplies in your area.

With the above references in mind ESCC LandRaise proposals probably breach groundwater protection guidance and may ultimately pollute your drinking water

In choosing the areas of search an amateurish knowledge of hydrology has led to anywhere on the chalk aquifers being ruled out, mainly due to the Environment Agency who appear to have far more say than other bodies such as Natural England.
However these aquifers are filled in part by the runoff and groundwaters from the Low Weald! Every study worldwide says that leakage of toxic leachate is inevitable.
To compound this I note that the Golden Cross site spans TWO water management areas, both the Ouse and the Cuckmere.
